Water Quality Management Plan

Water quality

Progress Summary

Why we are doing this project

Teton County is working to develop a 20-year comprehensive water quality plan to protect surface water and groundwater resources from future degradation and improve water quality where known degradation is occurring. The plan will address the management of wastewater, stormwater, and drinking water, as well as surface and groundwater resources.

Who will benefit

The entire Teton County community, including residents, businesses, and local ecosystems, will benefit from improved water quality and sustainable water management practices.

Funding and costs

In 2022, Teton County voters approved a specific purpose excise tax (SPET) of $10,000,000 to protect and restore the community's water resources. Funding is being used for vital projects like the Hoback Water and Sewer District's new clean drinking water distribution system and support future Water Quality Management Plan initiatives.

Progress of the Project

  • Complete: From 2022-2024, Teton County completed Phases 1 through 5, a robust public engagement and stakeholder process to prepare a draft Water Quality Management Plan.
  • Plan Adoption: In 2024, the Teton County Board of County Commissioners reviewed the Water Quality Management Plan and opened it to public comment. Once public comment was incorporated into the Plan and a resolution was drafted, the Teton County Board adopted the Water Quality Management Plan.
