Trash Transfer Station
Your partner in waste management and the Road to Zero Waste JH
The Trash Transfer Station is at the heart of Teton County's waste diversion efforts. Like many communities across the country, Teton County does not have an active landfill nearby, so all trash collected is shipped 100 miles to a landfill in Idaho. By reducing, reusing, recycling and composting, we strive to send as little waste to the landfill as possible, achieving the highest and best use of our resources while promoting community and environmental health.
- Inspection: Loads are subject to inspection, sort fees, or rejection.
- Tarping Requirement: All loads must be tarped; untarped loads will incur a fee.
- Demolition Waste: Requires asbestos testing and 48 hours’ notice before disposal.
- All loads must comply with the Sorting Policy Manual.
- For all helpful information in one place, including a schedule of fees, view our Trash Transfer Station brochure or Información en Español.
- Landfill-bound trash is $152/ton. For small loads, there is a minimum fee of $10. Other materials or items may be charged at a different rate.
- Yard Waste: Leaves, branches and shrubs; trees and stumps (free of rocks and dirt). These are composted locally. Tip fee is $103/ton or minimum of $10. Teton County also partners with the Town of Jackson to offer Spring Clean Up, Fall Clean Up and Christmas Tree collection weeks for free organics disposal.
- Food waste can be dropped at the Food Waste Compost Building for $103.00 per ton ($10 minimum fee still
applies for small containers of food waste). Residential customers with small amounts of food scraps (5 gallons or under) are encouraged to drop food waste at the Recycling Center for $2 per container. A commercial food waste collection program is also available.
- Manure: Manure, hay, and straw (string removed).
- Concrete/Masonry Blocks: No larger than 2’x2’x2’.
Protruding steel, rebar or wood must be cut flush.

- Asbestos:
Contact (307) 733-7678 for removal guidelines.
- Liquid Waste:
Includes sewage sludge or other liquids.
- Electronics:
TVs, computers, cell phones, and accessories. These may be taken to the Community Recycling Center, where they can be recycled safely for $0.50 a pound.
- Bear Spray, Compressed Gas Cylinders,
and Camping Propane Canisters:
Bear spray and camping cannisters may be taken to the Adams Canyon Recycling Center office. Larger propane tanks may be returned to where they were purchased. Bear spray disposal is $2/canister to help offset the cost of safe disposal. - Batteries:
Batteries, including lithium and automotive, are dangerous to dispose of with ordinary waste being trucked and landfilled due to chemical leakage and fire hazards. Small lithium, alkaline and lead-acid batteries from automobiles may be taken to the Adams Canyon Recycling Center. E-bike and golf cart lithium batteries cannot be accepted and can usually be returned to where the vehicle was purchased. - Fluorescent Light Bulbs:
Compact Fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and fluorescent tubes require specialized disposal because they contain mercury. When CFLs break, or if they are improperly disposed, mercury is released into the environment. These materials are accepted at year-round at the Recycling Center (small quantities only) and during the spring and summer at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for safe handling and disposal. For full details, visit our Fluorescent Bulb Recycling Info page here.
- Household Hazardous Waste:
This includes poisonous, flammable and corrosive substances like antifreeze, oil-based paint, turpentines, used motor oils and pesticides. These can be taken by appointment during HHW season between April and October. For information on Teton County's Household Hazardous Waste policies and collection program, visit our Household Hazardous Waste page for more details or view our brochure.
- Recyclables:
Residents and visitors are encouraged to recycle Items such as cardboard, food and beverage cans, plastic bottles, newspapers, magazines, office paper and other traditional recyclables to keep them out of the landfill and to save resources. Visit our Community Recycling Center page for more information about what can be recycled in Jackson Hole. In addition to our Community Recycling Center, we have seven community recycling drop-off locations throughout the community.
